Salaahuddin Du Preez (24), was adjudicated the best reciter in the tournament after scoring the highest marks in both the prelim and final rounds. The young man, from Afrikaaner background, was brought up in Potchefstroom and reverted to Islam less than eight yrs ago (following his mother and brother). He has since completed the Saba’ah Qiraa’aat, is presently doing his final yr in alim course, whilst having memorized about eight juz of the Qur’aan.
May we all be inspired by the example and precedent set by Qari Salaahuddin and all those whose love for the Qur’aan is evident in both their recitation and actions.
