AwqafSA takes a stand against Racism

One of AwqafSA’s key focus areas is to foster Social Cohesion.

“All mankind is from Adam and Eve … a White has no superiority over a Black nor does a black have any superiority over a White except by piety and good action.”

(Prophet Muhammed)

We were inspired by these words by Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) and we decided to create awareness of racism which is a scourge that pervades our community.

One of the outcomes of the 2nd International Congress on Islamic Civilisation in Southern Africa which was held in Durban during 4-6 March 2016, co-sponsored by the OIC Research  Centre for Islamic History, Art & Culture; and the National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa (AWQAF SA) together with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the International Peace College South Africa (IPSA).  The 2nd Congress declared:

Considering cross-cultural and inter-cultural challenges confronting Muslim communities , the Congress resolves to promote the integration of various and diverse social ethnic groups within the region and to promote anti-racism and anti-xenophobia

Racism is inherent in our societies today and is counterproductive as it divides communities. We call on all communities, organisations, and institutions across the board   to start a process of integration and social cohesion and to strongly promote anti-racism and anti-xenophobia in all its manifestations.
