The Islamic Medical Association of SA [Johannesburg Branch] in conjunction with AWQAF SA once again provided FREE medical screening to the Bosmont Community at the Annual Pre-Ramadhaan Bosmont Fete on the 28th & 29th of May 2016. Close to 200 people were screened over the 2 days and a variety of medical services and expertise were provided by our Health Professionals who volunteered their time and expertise.
The aim of such screenings are to identify a yet undiagnosed disease in individuals without signs or symptoms and mainly to bring awareness to the community about the importance of implementing a healthy lifestyle.
Each day commenced with the patients registering for the screening and thereafter proceeding to the first station, where a basic check-up of his / her weight, height & BMI calculations was conducted. Thereafter, Blood Pressure Testing and Glucose Testing was offered and with Ramadhaan a week away, we highlighted the topic of managing diabetes during Ramadhaan.
In addition to this we offered Eye and Dental Screening and as a bonus, we had specialists volunteering their times to deal with any queries related to Podiatry, which was managed by a very able group of final year students from the University of Johannesburg; Occupational Therapists concentrating on the assessment of child development screening and counselling, hand and upper limb therapy and arthritis education / management and a physiotherapist who offered screening for sporting injuries, chronic pain, carpal tunnel and frozen shoulder etc
We are grateful to both the Islamic Medical Association of SA and the Bosmont Islamic Centre and all the volunteers and Health Professionals who served on the two days.
Our thanks also goes to the many donors of AWQAF SA whose Waqfs contribute annually to the Healthcare Tent at the Bosmont Masjid Fete. Barakallahufeekum
May Allah [SWT] bless all and reward all with the best AAMEEN
It was really heart-warming to see so many people …young and elderly…coming in for health screening. It shows that people are concerned about their health and well-being.
