Back ground info on Ipopeng
Ipopeng is a recently established township that is, like many other townships, plagued by ills such as a high rate of alcoholism, unemployment, poverty and crime. Ipopeng is situated 5 to 6 kilometres in the outskirts of Bloemfontein and the people largely depend on the very limited employment opportunities.
The Ipopeng Jamaat Khana and Dawah Centre is an Oasis of Hope in a desert of hopelessness. The centre, located in a house that was donated by a member of the Muslim community of Ipopeng, with the expressed intention for it to be used for Dawah purposes.
Under the dedicated, sincere and humble leadership of Maulana Adam, the community seeks to restore its dignity and to take ownership of Islam and its propagation to the general populace of Ipopeng. It is under Maulana Adam’s guidance that the centre is thriving and provides employment to a few members of the community, notwithstanding the minimal resources.
Several employment creating projects are envisaged for the centre, namely:
- Welding Project
- Soap and Detergent Making Project
- Confectionary Project
- Carpentry and Cabinet Making Project
