In extension of Awqaf SA’s community social cohesion projects, we have partnered with Primrose Cricket Club to facilitate a Youth Cricket Tournament. Established in 1976, Primrose Cricket Club has been at the forefront of cricket excellence despite the adverse historic challenges placed on sport as a result of discriminatory apartheid policies.

The 2018 tournament has been expanded to include 40 teams from the following age groups:

Boys

  • Under 11
  • Under 12
  • Under 13
  • Under 15

Girls

  • Under 13
  • Under 15

The introduction of the girl’s team to the competition highlights the growing emphasis on the need to ensure our girls have an equal opportunity
to participate in sporting codes. This will translate into over 600 kids playing the game of cricket over the 4 days.

The ethos of the four-day tournament is to produce inclusive social cohesion, and designed to give the young players a sense of cricket heritage and to build confidence.

The youth tournament has been endorsed by the WP Cricket Association. Its president, Beresford Williams, and Cape Cobras CEO, Nabiel Dien, act as its official patrons.

We believe that sports is a natural vehicle that acts as a sustainable tool to developing individuals and communities. The tournament therefore, aims to promote social cohesion by allowing children from varying walks of life to play the game of cricket at NO CHARGE. As a community owned Endowment Fund, we would like to provide an equal opportunity to all children partaking in the tournament, which will allow a platform to harmoniously integrate and build communities.
