Cataracts is the leading cause of blindness, accounting for 50% of blindness worldwide, while the World Health Organisation estimates indicate that 1.2% of the entire population of Africa is blind, and that cataract causes 36% of this blindness.

A Waqf is a voluntary, permanent, irrevocable dedication of a portion of ones wealth – in cash or kind – to Allah. (Also referred to as Sadaqah Jariyyah — perpetual charity).

Awqaf SA is a charitable endowment (waqf) receiving organization. It invests endowment funds and spends only the income generated from investments to fund a variety of community development projects and programmes promoting Integrated Community Development and Self-Reliance.
