Awqaf SA hosted a book launch of “The Compassionate Healer” at the Petrocam offices, Sandton on the 16th of March 2022.
About the book
“The Compassionate Healer” is the biography of Dr. Essop Jassat, it was authored by Haroon Aziz and published by Awqaf SA as part of its Leaders and Legacies series. This biography shows that the development processes of Dr. Essop Jassat’s character and South Africa’s history respectively were deeply interwoven.
From his experiences, he innovated a new health promotion model to counter the prevailing biomedical model in the struggle against diseases and social evils.
About Dr. Essop Jassat
Dr. Essop Jassat devoted his medical, political, and social life to the service of humanity for more than 70 years in South Africa. He endured arbitrary banning orders, imprisonment, and trial for high treason under Apartheid.
