PLEDGE FOR HAJJ WAQF FUND

To visit the Beloved Prophet Muhammad’s (saw)  City  Madina Munawwarah, to make Tawaaf of  the Kaaba in the holy precinct of Makka al Mukarramah,  to walk and run between the mounts of Saffa and Marwa in the footsteps Bibi Hajara (AS) in the search  for water for the infant Ismail (AS),   to stand on that great day in Arafat, and to follow the footsteps of the friend of Allah,  Hadhrat Ebrahim (AS) ….indeed The Sacred Journey of Hajj is the desire and dream of every Muslim…all for the pleasure of Allah.   Hajj is a  duty on all Muslims who can afford the sacred journey. But there are many who who save for years to fulfil their duty. Yet there are  others who yearn to  go but will never fulfil their desire just because they cannot afford the cost of Hajj. Some have the means but just not enough  to make it. Many Muslims, both from established and emerging communities,  are unable to afford their journey of  a lifetime due to poverty or  just being unable to save enough. And with inflation eating away their savings, Hajj  becomes just a dream that they can pray for. Traditionally, many sadaqah jariya waqfs were  established in many countries to support unfortunate  hujjjaj or even to assist  hujjjaj with additional facilities such as resting places, food, and medication. Those of us that have been blessed with the   means, may give a gift of  sadaqah jariyah …  now have the opportunity to contribute  to ...

International Qur’aan Recital Award to be held in South Africa

The first International Qur’aan Recital Award (IQRA) organised by the South African Qur’aan Union will be held during 16 to 22 September 2013.   The organisation, with its experience in hosting provincial and national competitions for the last eight years, has embarked on this landmark initiative in an attempt to honour the efforts of students and teachers of the Holy Qur’aan throughout the world. The event serves as an added encouragement for individuals to improve, and hence the aim of the competition is to promote and maintain high levels of Qur’anic learning and service, as well as to train and earmark successful (local) candidates for other international platforms. This year, in addition to allowing reciters from other countries to join, a separate category for female participation has been  opened,  as well as a special section for past winners (champs of champs’ category). Awqaf SA supports this initiative and ask all to make dua for success inshallah. Awqaf SA deems it important not only to encourage the art of recitation, or the art of Quranic calligraphy, but more importantly, in the internalisation and implemenation of Quranic precepts. The organisers will be video stream the entire event  throughout the world. The event will take place at the Masjidul Mubarak in Belhar, Cape Town.
