Yunus Dawah Centre Ipopeng Opening

Thandile Kona represented Awqaf SA at the opening of the Yunus Dawah Centre Ipopeng in Bloemfontein on the 21 August 2016. Back ground info on Ipopeng Ipopeng is a recently established township that is, like many other townships, plagued by ills such as a high rate of alcoholism, unemployment, poverty and crime. Ipopeng is situated  5 to 6 kilometres in the outskirts of Bloemfontein and the people largely depend on the very limited employment opportunities. The Ipopeng Jamaat Khana and Dawah Centre is an Oasis of Hope in a desert of hopelessness. The centre, located in a house that was donated by a member of the Muslim community of Ipopeng, with the expressed intention for it to be used for Dawah purposes. Under the dedicated, sincere and humble leadership of Maulana Adam, the community seeks to restore its dignity and to take ownership of Islam and its propagation to the general populace of Ipopeng. It is under Maulana Adam’s guidance that the centre is thriving and provides employment to a few members of the community, notwithstanding the minimal resources. Muslimah Today

The Month of August is dedicated to Woman’s Month and The Fifth Annual Muslimah Today Conference had a jam packed line up to celebrate Women’s Day.The theme of the Conference was “Path to happiness” and the conference was billed as a lifestyle event offering the delegates great advice on how to achieve happiness. The speaker line up included: Radia Bawa Hendricks, Mnxulwa Mohammedy Nobuhle Fatima, Raeesa Aboobaker, Fahrial Amla, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Fatima Chohan, Mrs Zuleikha Mayat and Dr Shakira Cassim. The event took place at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal Westville Campus between the 13 – 14 August 2016. Awqaf SA was a proud sponsor of the event. House of Ummah “7th Stakeholders Meeting”

What is the House of Ummah? The House of Ummah is an association of volunteer individuals committed to addressing issues of concern within the Ummah in southern Africa such as intolerance,  infighting, racial, linguistic and other forms of marginalisation. As a reform movement it does not raise nor handle funding but seeks to coordinate existing structures towards a common vision for a single Ummah,   and nudges away from wasteful duplication. It also raises issues of justice and imbalances with the objective of ensuring Islamic ideals. 67+Boreholes for MandelaDay

MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sunday 17 July 2016 67+ Boreholes for #MandelaDay Operation Hydrate and Awqaf South Africa, supported by, amongst others, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Department of Water and Sanitation have pledged to drill 67+ boreholes in drought stricken areas of South Africa over the coming months. The value of the boreholes is around R7-million. A further 28 boreholes will be set-up at a cost of R3-million later this year which will take the total to 95. Former President Nelson Mandela passed away at the age of 95. In a joint statement, the four organizations said: “We are all committed to continue assisting communities in need of water. The drought is far from over and these boreholes will go a long way in providing much needed water to communities in at least six provinces.” CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Sello Hatang, has welcomed the initiative. “This announcement is in line with our plans to make every day a Mandela Day. “Water is life and these boreholes will provide thousands of liters of water to communities suffering from the drought while supporting our commitment to food security,” said Hatang. Operation Hydrate’s Yaseen Theba, said the partnership with Awqaf SA, was the biggest single drive for boreholes this year. “We decided to launch it on Mandela Day 2016 to keep Madiba’s legacy alive. Nelson Mandela Memorial Cataract Camp

The AWQAF SA/ Islamic Medical Association of SA (IMASA)  NELSON MANDELA MEMORIAL CATARACT CAMP will be held during 16 and 17 July 2016. The Discharge Ceremony will be held on he 18th July 2016 at the Nursing Hall, Leratong Hospital, Gauteng and will commence at 09.30am. Media and interested persons are cordially invited to attend the Discharge Ceremony at the Nursing Hall.
