“From the Spice Islands to Cape Town, The Life and Times of Tuan Guru”, is authored by veteran South African journalist Shafiq Morton and commissioned and published by Awqaf SA as part its “Leaders and Legacies” project. The project has thus far produced over 10 books that aims to honour our past leaders and struggle icons.
As part of Awqaf SA’s Heritage Day program, Shafiq Morton presented a talk titled “The Crescent at the Cape, from Indonesia to Istanbul, our Camissa Heritage Explained” at Rumi Cafe, Pinelands, Cape Town.
“From the Spice Islands to Cape Town, The Life and Times of Tuan Guru” book was launched last year at centres across South Africa including Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
